Blue Devils cruise past Franklin Pierce

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Fredonia State won its first-ever meeting with Franklin Pierce, 7-2, on Friday night at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.

Down 2-1 early in the second period, the Blue Devils scored the next six goals to improve to 7-9-0. The loss dropped the Raves to 3-13-0.

Jordan Oye had two goals and two assists to lead the Fredonia State offense. Bryan Ross also had two goals .

Franklin Pierce scored the only goal of the first period and while it wasn't on a power-play, it might as well have been. Four seconds after the Blue Devils killed off a penalty, Roscoe Sweeney gave the Ravens a 1-0 lead at 7:17.

The teams traded goals to start the second period. Ross made it 1-1 at 8:12. Adam Dallaire put the Ravens back on top, 2-1, at 11:43, off his own rebound. The Blue Devils closed out the period with three straight goals. First it was Mat Hehr at 12:45, followed by Oye at 13:29. Chris LaBella scored a short-handed goal at 17:43 following an odd-man rush out of the defensive end.

Fredonia State scored three more in the third period. Ross's goal at 3:11 was his seventh of the season. Oye added his 12th goal at 7:43. It was also his 99th career point in 88 games. Billy Sanborn closed out the scoring at 12:26.

The Blue Devils outshot the Ravens, 59-22, and killed five of five penalties. That makes them 44 of 47 on the penalty kill in their last 10 games, a success rate of 93 percent.

Jeff Holloway started in goal and made 19 saves in two periods and change. Tyler Palmerton was credited with three saves over the final 6:41.

The two teams meet again Saturday at 3 p.m.
