FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Trailing 11-5 early on, the Fredonia State women's basketball team exploded for 17-straight points, and would cruise to a 70-59 victory on Saturday. The Devils led by 21 late in the fourth before Alfred scored the final nine points to close the gap.
Jakiera Stackhouse scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the Devils.
Payton Gilbert added 17 and eight, while
Grace Alexander had nine points, five assists, and four steals as the team improved to 6-3.
Fredonia State got its points in bunches with a 14-0 run in the third quarter and a 12-0 in the second, in addition to ripping off the 17 straight. They led by as many as 26 late in the third quarter, 55-29.
One bright spot for Alfred was rebounding where they held a 43-41 advantage. They were held to 34 percent shooting from the floor, including 9 percent (2-21) from three-point range. They were paced by Jayda Felker with 17 points and Jaydin Chest with 16. Natalee Collins had 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Saxons now sit at 5-3.
The Devils are off until next semester. They pick up action on Jan. 6 with a trip to Cortland.
