FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team took care of business Tuesday night to improve its SUNYAC record to 6-4 and 11-6 overall as they took down Morrisville, 69-63. The Devils were led by
Payton Gilbert with 20 points and
Jayssa Snelick with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Grace Alexander, 12 points, and
Aliyah Hopkins, 11 points, also reached double digits in scoring.
Morrisville (1-16 / 0-10 SUNYAC) entered the game looking for its first conference win. The Mustangs managed to hang around the entire game. At one point they led early in the second quarter, 20-19, and would pull within two points twice in the fourth quarter.
However, the Devils would hold them off for the win following a high-scoring fourth quarter. The teams combined for 47 points in the final frame, with the Devils outscoring Morrisville, 24-23.
Morrisville was led by Hayley Dawson and Anyssia Ingersoll with 21 and 20 points, respectively. Mia Kaltenbach added 15 points.
The Devils dominated rebounding, 46-29, led by Snelick's 13 and 12 from
Jakiera Stackhouse. Hopkins added nine boards.
The Mustangs were firing from long distance the second they stepped on the court, converting 13-37 (35 percent) long-range attempts. The Devils went 8-28 (29 percent).
The Devils will head to Buffalo State on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. The men follow at 7:30 p.m.
