FREDONIA, N.Y -- Down one and with the ball on their half of the floor,
Ethan Sokolowski inbounded the ball to
Martin Garza who beat his man baseline and finished a contested layup to provide the winning basket as the Fredonia State men's basketball team won an exciting 79-78 contest vs. Potsdam.
The fantastic finish capped a 14-2 run down the stretch to see the Devils pull out the victory. Garza finished with 23 points, including 10 of the Devils' final 14. Sokolowski's effort saw him score 16 points, dish out nine assists, and grab seven rebounds.
Christian Williams added 12 points and seven boards.
Potsdam (1-21 / 1-14 SUNYAC) was led by Mike Hancock with 26 points, 11 coming from the free-throw line. Four players finished in double digits.
Aside from the game's first basket, the Devils would not lead until the game's last basket with 2.6 seconds left to play. They did keep things close, however, to set things up for their stretch run. Potsdam never led by more than 10 points in the second half.
The Devils (3-18 / 3-11 SUNYAC) take on Plattsburgh at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Their game is preceded by the women at 2:00.
