MEADVILLE, Pa. --The Fredonia State women's lacrosse team opened its season with a dominating 17-3 win at Allegheny College on Wednesday.
Mieley Baran scored five times, and the Devils got three goals apiece from
Jenna Slamka and
Rylee Bennett.The Karalus sisters combined for seven assists, with Cailin collecting four and Megan three.
The first quarter was all Fredonia State, as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Baran, Bennett, and Slamka all scored within a minute-and-a-half midway though the first.
After Bennett scored the first goal of the second quarter to stake the Devils to 7-0 lead, the Gators finally got on the board with a goal by Erin Lowthert.
The Devils rattled off the next three goals before the Gators scored just before the half to make it a 10-2 game.
Fredonia State scored the first seven goals of the second half. Allegheny got its last goal with a buzzer beater just before the end of the game.
The Devils used a pair of goaltenders.
Ashleigh Manns had four saves with one goal against, and
Jessica Kowalski had one save and two goals against.
The Devils play host to Alfred University on Saturday.
