Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Devils roll to 3-0 start

WESTMINSTER, Pa. -- The Fredonia State women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a 9-7 victory over Westminster on Wednesday, but only after a hard-fought, tightly contest battle. The game would see six ties before the Devils pulled away scoring three of the last four goals.

Tied at 6-all, Fredonia State's Noelle Mendez put the Devils up for good, 7-6, with 1:09 left in the third quarter.

Jenna Slamka scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter, as the Devils worked their way to a 9-6 lead.  Westminster's last gasp came at the 4:42 mark, when the Titan's Haley Wenzel scored her team's fifth goal with a man advantage to make it a 9-7 game. By contrast, the Devils had one power play goal.

Slamka and Katie O'Brien each had two goals. Mieley Baran had a goal and three assists for a team-high four points for Fredonia State.

Jessica Kowalski earned the win in goal, making 14 saves and giving up seven scores -- only two coming at even strength. Falyn Snyder made 10 saves and gave up nine for the Titans. Felicia Young had three goals for the hosts, who now stand at 1-2.

The Devils play host to Nazareth on Saturday with 1 p.m. gametime.
