FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Fredonia women's soccer team rallied from an early deficit and briefly took the lead before settling for a 2-2 draw against Oswego State in its SUNYAC opener Wednesday afternoon at University Stadium.
Anna Ratchuk and Haley Drinon had goals for Fredonia State, both on headers. Gabby Irwin assisted both.
Oswego struck quickly in the third minute when Sabrina Schmitt scored to give the Lakers a 1-0 advantage, which held into halftime.
The Blue Devils broke through in the 64th minute. Irwin delivered a cross from the right wing to Ratchuk, who finished for her fifth goal of the season to even the score at 1-1.
Fredonia took its first lead in the 78th on Drinon's second goal of the year. Irwin again played the provider with a cross from the right side.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Oswego answered in the 83rd minute. Kyla Sustad scored her second goal of the match to knot the contest for good.
Fredonia controlled much of the offensive play, outshooting the Lakers 23-15. Alyssa Hatch made seven saves in net for the Blue Devils.
