ONEONTA, N.Y -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team fell just short at Oneonta on Friday, 62-59. The Red Dragons Kayla Beaudoin converted all four free throw attempts in the final 17 seconds of the game to help Oneonta hang on.
Fredonia State was led by
Payton Gilbert with 19 points and six rebounds, and
Jayssa Snelick with 17 points.
The Devils jumped out to an 8-0 lead to kick things off. By the end of the firs quarter, Oneonta would claw back to a 19-16 lead.
The Devils outscored the Red Dragons 16-8 in the second, but things were roughly reversed in the third, with Oneonta gaining a 17-8 scoring advantage in the period. By the end of that frame, the Red Dragons found themselves up, 44-40.
The fourth quarter was played just about as tightly as could be. The largest lead for either team was four points, 52-48, when the Devils'
Grace Alexander nailed a three pointer with 4:14 left to play.
The lead was short lived, as a three-point played followed by a pair of free throws by Lydia Boucher quickly put Oneonta back on top. There would be two more lead changes before the final buzzer. The Devils outscored Oneonta, 19-18, in the fourth.
Oneonta was led by Tyalia Fret-Thom with 18 points. Carlie Young added 15, and Beaudoin finished with 12.
Both teams now stand a .500 in SUNYAC play. The Devils are 6-6 (11-8 overall), while Oneonta is now 7-7 (12-9 overall).
The Devils head to New Paltz on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip off.
