MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped a 14-1 game at Allegheny College on Saturday. Things were even, tied 0-0, through the first three innings before the Gators exploded for 14 runs over the next three.
Starting pitcher
Morgan Zientara tossed three scoreless, before giving up two runs in the fourth. After the leadoff batter got on in the fifth, he was lifted in favor of
Nick Syposs. The Gators would scratch one more run to go up 3-0.
The sixth proved to be three Devils' undoing. Allegheny plated 11 runs to put the game away.
The Devils avoided the shutout with an RBI single by Tucker Schawb in the top of the ninth. He finished with two of the Devils' seven hits.
Nick Vitelli also had two hits, including a double.
Zach Zentz,
Owen Ludwig, and Vince Giuliano each had scoreless relief appearances for Fredonia State.
The Gators (6-4), fresh off their Spring Trip to Florida, knocked out 19 hits. Ben Shields was the winning pitcher going 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, a walk, and striking out seven.
The Devils (1-4) are headed to Florida for their annual Spring Trip on with the first game on March 14.
