FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's lacrosse team fell to Oneonta, 11-4, at University Stadium on Monday. It was the first conference game for both teams. The Blue Devils suffered their first loss of the season and are now 4-1.
Katie O'Brien scored three of the four goals for the Blue Devils, with
Mieley Baran scoring the other. Goalie
Jessica Kowalski made 10 saves while giving up 11 goals.
Oneonta (3-1 / 1-0 SUNYAC) had three goals from a trio of players -- Ava Fitzsimmons, Chelsea Dodenhoff, and Grace Beattie. Margot Hering made six saves.
Baran scored the game's first goal for Fredonia State, but the Red Dragons would roar back with the next four. O'Brien netted her first goal of the game with 2:04 left in the first to cut Oneonta's lead to 4-2.
Oneonta would scored the next four goals -- the only two of the second quarter, and the first two of the third, to go up 8-3.
The Red Dragons would have a three-goal burst early in the fourth, making it an 11-3 contest. O'Brien scored the game's final goal with 54 seconds showing on the clock.
The Devils head to Grove City College for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday.
